As the voters mail in their ballots for the Feb 13th special bond election we thought it would be interesting to see how Battle Ground (asking for a $224.9 million bond) compares to Evergreen (asking for a $695 million bond) from a demographics standpoint.
Battle Ground SD student population: (end of 2017 as reported to OSPI) = 13,498
Evergreen SD student population: (end of 2017 as reported to OSPI) = 26,179
Here’s a chart comparing demographics:
What can we learn from the comparison?
- EGSD has 29% more households than the BGSD
- Earnings appear to be higher in the BGSD
- Property values are higher in the BGSD (so the new State property taxes will be higher)
- Both districts have almost 2/3rds of all households that don’t have any children
- The EGSD has ~.41 children per household (average)
- The BGSD has ~.27 children per household (average)
- At $695 million and 26,179 children that works out to $26,547 per child in the EGSD
- At $225 million and 13,498 children that works out to $16,669 per child in the BGSD
