Common Cores impact on K-12 education in Washington State – The Truth

Common Core has been the law of the land (k-12 education) for well over a decade now. We asked Gemini AI to go into it's "Expert" Mode and answer the question: as an expert common core how has damaged k-12 education? After extensive research the answer is shown below. Please note that near the end of the article OSPI has changed the reporting rules...they lowered them to try and give the impression scores have gotten better...they have NOT! OSPI is lying and misleading. They claim to have dropped Common Core but have really renamed/rebranded. A pig with lipstick is still a pig. The perspective that the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have significantly damaged K-12 education is … [Read more...]

Study: Historic Drop in U.S. Reading and Math Scores Since Common Core ‘Debacle’

When we started this blog nearly 4 1/2 years ago our first focus was on Common Core. Indeed, we have run over 220 articles on the subject: https://swweducation.org?cat=61 Today we bring you a new study that, again, shows conclusively, that Common Core has been an unmitigated disaster by harming the education of our children while running up billions of dollars in expenses. This study was published at the Pioneer Institute on April 27, 2020: https://pioneerinstitute.org/academic-standards/study-finds-historic-drop-in-national-reading-and-math-scores-since-adoption-of-common-core-curriculum-standards/  What does the study bring to light?  The pdf version of the study can be downloaded at … [Read more...]

First Common Core High School Grads Worst-Prepared For College In 15 Years

The Federalist shares an article that pulls together data on Common Core's...failure. Here's the link to the original article. The author is Joy Pullman. For the third time in a row since Common Core was fully phased in nationwide, U.S. student test scores on the nation’s broadest and most respected test have dropped, a reversal of an upward trend between 1990 and 2015. Further, the class of 2019, the first to experience all four high school years under Common Core, is the worst-prepared for college in 15 years, according to a new report. The National Assessment of Educational Progress is a federally mandated test given every other year in reading and mathematics to students in … [Read more...]

Portrait of a Problem: A Detroit Valedictorian Struggles to Pass Remedial Math at a State University. What’s the (Common) Core Issue?

Washington State adopted Common Core and rolled out the first testing in 2014. The test scores have been poor and are not getting better. Math is one of the sections of Common Core that has been an unmitigated failure...but...OSPI and our State Superintendent of Schools, Chris Reykdal, is hell-bent on continuing to push it. They will tell you that they changed the name to make it sound less like Common Core but it's still a massive failure. Since this blog has been running we've run 219 articles about Common Core. You can find them here: https://swweducation.org?cat=61 Today we bring you an article that highlights the penultimate failure...a Valedictorian struggles with math. If the best … [Read more...]

Addressing the fallacies of Common Core education

Who says that young people don't understand the flaws and fallacies of Common Core and their "standards"? In the following article published at BuPipedream.com  Hannah Gulko (a Junior majoring in human development) shares her thoughts and assessment. If we can find more like her maybe we can get some school boards to pay attention and take action...we can only hope. On March 3, 2019, Andrew Foley, development director of Better Days Greece, a non-governmental organization that focuses on providing spaces that promote relief, healing and learning to those displaced during the refugee crisis, spoke at Binghamton University’s TEDx event. Foley discussed the significance of education and … [Read more...]

Common Core testing…is here again…it’s time to act

For those who don't know or don't pay close attention to notices from school it's now time for the "BIG" Common Core testing again. Every spring the children in multiple grades spend weeks and weeks on practicing and taking the SBAc (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium). If you want to see the propaganda from the group that owns the testing here is a link: http://www.smarterbalanced.org/  This is a private group that profits from the testing. What do they claim it does and is good for? Supporting high-quality teaching Improving learning for all students Preparing students for life after high school Why is this testing used? Originally it, along with a sister test (PARCC) was … [Read more...]

U.S. kids are doing progressively worse at math, reading, and more, but it’s not their fault

Common Core is just a set of standards...right? Just because a private group came up with a set of standards that they created, have never been tested, are "licensed" to generate profit and push views of liberals...they are ok because they are just standards...right? In the following article re-published at The New American and written by Alex Newman & Dr. Duke Pesta they talk about:  Insanity In the Classroom: Government Schools Today. Give it a read and then...reach out to your local school district and school board and tell them what you think and demand action. Despite major funding, U.S. kids are doing progressively worse at math, reading, and more, but it’s not their … [Read more...]

Post-Common Core, U.S. Kids Slide On Another Academic Measure

Common Core...renamed in some states. Called Washington State Learning Standards...is Common Core. Why change the name? To fool parents and watchers. So, let's be clear...a rose by any name is still a rose rather...a swamp is still a swamp until you drain it. Common Core has harmed education in the United States. Along with the associated high stakes testing we've spent billions...yes...billions of dollars on new curriculum and testing for what? In the following article more attention is drawn to the failure. The article ran in The Federalist. The author is Joy Pullmann. International test results released this week show U.S. students losing ground on yet another measure in the … [Read more...]

Florida School Ditches Common Core – Soars To Number One

This article comes to us from Yournewswire.com A school in Florida that dumped the Common Core program in favor of traditional teaching methods has soared to the number one position in the State’s top schools list, according to government statistics. Mason Classical Academy, a charter school in Naples, Florida, decided against forcing kids to learn the Obama endorsed Common Core method of teaching, due to the way it deliberately dumbs down children and created unnecessary and complicated methods for working out relatively simple problems. Naturalnews.com reports: They have rejected the backward approach of Common Core, which sees kids memorize entire words in kindergarten before … [Read more...]
