Legislators Send Letter to US Secretary of Ed John King about ESSA Mandated Testing
From Deutsch29 ..... On April 04, 2016, nineteen legislators sent a letter regarding the USDOE’s expressed intent to enforce the federal 95 percent testing mandate to US Secretary of Education John King. (See letter below). Regarding the language in the newly reauthorized Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) version, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the legislators have some info correct and some incorrect as concerns exactly what ESSA states regarding the 95 percent participation in ESSA’s federally mandated tests tied to Title I funding. The legislators rightly point out that ESSA allows states to determine how, exactly, to factor the 95 percent of required testing … [Read more...]

Warriors, we CANNOT stop now! This huge education bill has more … [Read more...]
The successor to No Child Left Behind has, it turns out, big problems of its own
By Valerie Strauss December 7, 2015 Follow @valeriestrauss The Washington Post U.S. lawmakers always have reasons for what they do, so there must be one for why they didn’t make public the 1,059-page rewrite of the 2002 No Child Left Behind until a few days before Congress began voting on the compromise legislation last week. Could it be that they didn’t want critics to take too close a look? The Every Student Succeeds Act is now expected to replace NCLB as the newest version of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act, an overarching law that defines federal involvement in K-12 education. The House passed it last week and the Senate is expected to pass it this week, with … [Read more...]
Make This Your Educational New Year’s Resolution: Rage Against the Machine
From Missouri Education Watch > > > They *hit* you by tracking family data and determining if you are an *effective* parent The educational wars are just beginning. As more and more parents understand that ESSA will not restore local control, as individual freedom is eradicated in the classroom and invasive data tracking is confirmed, the battles will increase and hopefully, more parents will remove their children from this federal educational program. Some parents (and I am sympathetic) state they have no choice but to keep their children in public education. I wonder if some of the parents will now find a way to home school or provide different alternatives … [Read more...]
