When the test was originally rolled out it was going to give you a focused, targeted report on your child. You were to get the results before school let out so that you and the teacher could sit down and talk if there were any issues. Have you heard anything? Well…as it turns out…the results don’t get finished up and reported on until mid August and your child’s results won’t be available until sometime in September after school has already re-started. So much for helping you before the end of the school year.
So what if you want to see your child(ren)(s) test results? What would you do? Well we’re here to point you in the right direction to find out.
The first thing you might want to do is stop by the OSPI web site on the subject: http://www.k12.wa.us/assessment/StateTesting/StudentRecordRequest.aspx
Next you may want to see:
Procedure & Guidelines
Then you will find: http://wa.portal.airast.org/wp-content/uploads/RTV-Form.pdf
Open the form and complete it and turn it in. Then…sit back and wait…and wait…and wait. Last year there was a parent who, last they reported, had been waiting 6 months for the results. If and when OSPI responds you will get the scores…BUT…don’t ask to see the test questions and responses. Those are secret. They will NOT show you that information. You just need to trust them.
By the way…the test results have no meaning. There is no benchmark. This is only the 2nd year they have been used and it will take at least 5 years to accumulate enough information to be of use. In the meantime states are withdrawing at a break neck pace so the results that do accumulate will mean little or nothing. You should be pleased to know that your legislators demand that to graduate high school your child(ren) must pass this test. Ain’t education grand?
