Opposed Statement to the Evergreen School District Levy:
Per OSPI’s website, less than half of ESD (Evergreen School District) students met standards for English 49.7%, Math 39.3%, and Science 40.6% (10% below Washington’s state averages). Until focusing on academics, no more money is warranted as $15K per child is already State/Federally funded. This resolution increases the current levy from$1.72 to $2.12 (23% over 2 years).
You’re ESD Superintendent and his $305K salary was terminated December 16th but he will be paid his regular salary for another year after being fired, Why? Because, your divided ESD board decided paying him off was better than transparency and litigation. After all, it’s just taxpayer money.
It was believed at the time of the writing of this statement (December 17th) that he may have been fired for not dealing with a former ESD teacher recently convicted of child molestation since several student complaints against him for possible sexual abuse went undisciplined for years? Thirty angry parents and students protested with signs outside the district offices building on December 9th asking why? For more info see ESD student’s Instagram page: ‘youfailedtoprotectus’.
Since the time this Opposed Statement had to be submitted (December 17th) it was later learned that the reason for the superintendents firing was for aggressively promoting his girlfriend who also worked for the school district and also for retaliation on another worker who filed a complaint about it.
Also, an ESD middle school teacher publically wished Death on the Unvaccinated (including children) violating Resolution 6365 that each of your ESD board members signed last year condemning ‘Hate Speech’. Repeatedly, your board refused reporting any disciplinary action. Whether believing Masks/Vaccines are Good or Bad, students should be allowed valid Medical/Religious Exemptions. Children are low risk.
“Culturally Responsive Training” or ‘Practices’ per ESD, paves the way for Critical Race Theory which parents of all races have denounced at school board meetings around the country as Racist (students judged by the color of their skin).
Your ESD board was also asked about exploring the use of the more factual and much more family friendly sex education curriculum (‘Check the Facts’) but totally ignored that request in favor of the sexually explicit Planned Parenthood/Flash versions currently in use.
Please Vote ‘No’.
Let your school board know we deserve better. Parental Rights are ours not theirs!
Highlights from the For Statement to the ESD Levy written by Tanisha Harris (two time loser to Vicki Kraft as state representative in the House 17th):
Quality Education is a Community Benefit
Saying “Yes” on this measure means saying Yes to Quality Education
Education is a Partnership
Failure is not an option when it comes to the well-being and equitable outcomes for our students.
Saying Yes = Support for Children and Our Future
The Rebuttal to the ‘For’ Statement was as follows:
‘Quality Education’ isn’t what ESD students receive. Per OSPI’s website, less than half of ESD students met standards: English 49.7%, Math 39.3%, Science 40.6% (Verifiable facts, not rhetoric about ‘Quality Education’).
‘Education is a Partnership’ Answer: ESD’s failed its part.
Don’t continue throwing good money after bad.
Renewed focus on academics not more money is required.
‘Failure’s not an option’ Answer: But it’s been the reality.
Saying Yes = Supporting continued failure. Saying No = Clear Message.
- The school board directors that were just reelected are part of the problem. How does giving them more money solve anything? More $$$ actually encourages them to do the same.
- Please take the time to read the article in this link: https://swweducation.org?p=7223 When you do you will see that the Evergreen District has/will get over $60 million in 1x Covid funds. If they applied that money they would need either no levy or a fraction of what they are demanding. Why should you pay more taxes when they have a $60 million windfall?
- From an article we published in 2019 see that nothing had changed. More money does NOTHING to solve problems: https://swweducation.org?p=5744
- In 2018 voters approved a Capital Bond in excess of $600 million for what? Declining student population, declining test scores…more money does what? https://swweducation.org?page_id=4461 or this article: https://swweducation.org?p=4633
In the end the school board and district believe you (the voters) will say ok to anything the ask for. For the kids…right? The reality is they see taxpayers as Rubes.
