Teachers Union Demands Ending Basic Skills Test For Teachers?

In this article from MSN.com (yes that super liberal "media" they share about information from a New Jersey teachers union suggesting getting rid of standards. If this gets a foothold how long before it gets to your school district? BTW: In SW Washington State public schools are now roughly 2x the cost of private schools. Here's the story: The New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) is urging the end of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test, describing it as an unnecessary barrier to addressing teacher shortages. The NJEA successfully pushed for the elimination of the Teacher Performance Assessment test last year. “When the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) … [Read more...]

A school district in California’s Bay Area is launching an initiative to train over a hundred students to become Critical Race Theory activists in a plan that could last three years and cost more than $100,000. Martinez Unified School District (MUSD), located just inland from Berkeley, California, is preparing to train students to become leftwing activists with the help of Lori Watson, the CEO of Oakland-based … [Read more...]

L.A. School District Indoctrinates 5-Year-Olds With Celebration Of LGBTQ Values

How likely is it this can come to your school district? How would you respond? The Daily Wire is the source of the report: Starting next week, many children as young as 5 who attend Los Angeles Unified public schools will participate in a weeklong celebration of “National Coming Out Day,” which falls on October 11. The district issued its “Week of Action Toolkit,” emblazoned with a Black Power Fist over neon rainbow stripes and is nominally optional, although peer pressure will likely prompt elementary school teachers to use its programming. Its version for elementary students contains an “Identity Map activity” that “Prepares students to think critically about identity and … [Read more...]

Randi Weingarten – Single handedly set back K-12 education for a decade?

Who is Randi Weingarten? Rhonda “Randi” Weingarten (born December 18, 1957) is an American labor leader, attorney, and educator. She is president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and a member of the AFL–CIO. She is the former president of the United Federation of Teachers. Why is she important regarding K-12 education? In May 2021, it was revealed that Randi Weingarten, the leader of the nation's second-largest teachers union, significantly influenced Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on reopening schools earlier that year. In the lead-up to the “highly anticipated” Feb. 12, 2021 guidelines, the union president and another top union official were … [Read more...]

Children learn more quickly than adults

Today we bring you an article published in Science Daily which you may find interesting and worth considering. Overview If you've ever had the feeling that your elementary school kids were 'smarter' than you -- or at least capable of picking up new information and skills faster -- a new study suggests you're absolutely right. The new study also offers a reason: kids and adults exhibit differences in a brain messenger known as GABA, which stabilizes newly learned material. Full Story If you've ever had the feeling that your elementary school kids were "smarter" than you -- or at least capable of picking up new information and skills faster -- a new study in Current Biology on … [Read more...]

Mandatory ‘media literacy’ education for K-12 students will help children identify so-called ‘disinformation’ – New Jersey

As we are pushed to become "woke" in K-12 education we are delivered another nail in the proverbial coffin. In this article: Mandatory 'media literacy' education for K-12 students will help children identify so-called 'disinformation,' says New Jersey Gov. Murphy - TheBlaze. Last week, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) signed a first-of-its-kind bill into law requiring all K-12 students to receive an education in "media literacy," which the governor argued would allow children to identify so-called "misinformation." The state's Senate Bill 588 updates the New Jersey Student Learning Standards to include "information literacy" curriculum. According to the bill, K-12 students will be … [Read more...]

Washington State Senate Bill 5020 – Immediate Action Required

Parental choice alert! Another attempt to take control of our children. Currently parents can wait until their children are 8 years old before required to participate in formal education. In 2022 an effort was made to change that 8 year old requirement to 5 years old but it failed. Not to waste a good opportunity for more control they are coming back shooting for Age 6 as the new standard.  Summary of SB 5020: This bill will bring the mandatory age of attending school to 6 years of age. - it removes the parental decision of when a child should be placed into public or private school or home-based instruction - it is another step in allowing government to dictate decisions on … [Read more...]

Are children “deniers”?

We teach children to ask questions. How often have you had your child/ren ask why? The world is a place of wonder and learning. Throughout their education we share information and encourage them to continue to ask "why". Do we want that to stop? Do we want children to do exactly what their told and only repeat back that which they are told? If we've done our jobs (parents, teaches and society) they will be life long learners and always ask why...until they become adults. As a society we seem to be bent on killing the skill of asking why and challenging what we learn. Some people are called "deniers" when they question something someone tells them. The people who believe they are right … [Read more...]

Do pronouns have a place in school?

We have heard about the use of pronouns for the last several years. Some people include their pronouns in their email footers. Today we want to explore pronouns and examine whether they have a place in K-12 education. Pronouns are often referred to as "gender" pronouns and appear to be attempt to be gender neutral or add specific examples of how a person wants to be referred to and addressed. This of course requires that the person choosing and using the pronouns understand the meaning of and agree on the interpretation of the designations. It appears that in the past 5-10 years there has been an uptick on use by certain segments of the population. It's fair to say that those supporting … [Read more...]
