From The Western Journal and C. Douglas Golden a story of the implementation of CRT in Washington State. But wait...you think it isn't showing up in Camas and Vancouver and other SWW school districts? It's called my many names...dig into your district and you'll find it. Now...what will you do about it? It’s the party line on critical race theory: It’s just a legal theory that’s being used in academia, and it’s definitely not being taught in our schools. The Associated Press’ Bryan Anderson wrote earlier this month that the term “seemed to appear in statehouses and at political rallies almost from nowhere. Over the past year, it has morphed from an obscure academic discussion point … [Read more...]
Battle Ground School District proposed Sex Ed Curriculum review
The Battle Ground School District, like all districts across Washington State, is starting the process of choosing curriculum to meet the State mandated Comprehensive Sex Ed signed into law by Gov. Inslee as passed by the State Legislature. (It's worth noting that this was a partyline vote. Democrats all voted yes). As such BGSD created a team of 20 people from about 100 applicants to review selected curriculum. The Directors of Curriculum gave an online presentation. You may want to view it before proceeding with the rest of this article so you understand what they shared: https://youtu.be/sjev3ZACGlA It's worth a couple of minutes to delve into the composition of the public group that … [Read more...]

Learning pods? Pandemic pods? Micro Schools? What are they and will they fill your need for education in your K-12 student(s)? Are they really just a variant of homeschooling? Covid didn't cause the creation of the concept but has hastened the examination and adoption. Apparently the concept started as Micro Schools at: http://microschoolcoalition.com/ The book that is the basis for the movement is: Creating Micro-Schools for Colorful Mismatched Kids: A Step-by-Step Process that Empowers Frustrated Parents to Innovate Education Pods can be a group of parents who hire a teacher to work with a small number of students (generally similar ages). Comprehensive Sexual Health Education – OSPI’s Pitch
The Office of the Superintendent of Public Schools (OSPI) is held by Chris Reykdal. One of his goals is to institute a Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) program starting in kindergarten through high school. What does do they mean by CSE? What does it include? What are the specific examples of curriculum? Good questions all...but unanswerable because...they haven't figured out all the details yet. OSPI has recommended certain support materials for local districts to use including: 3R's and FLASH. They say the materials will be "age appropriate" but can't give examples yet. They have asked the legislature to "mandate" the CSE so that every district MUST follow their guidelines and only use … [Read more...]
Washington State Sexual Health Workgroup Recommendations – Part 2/2
In 2019, the Legislature directed OSPI to convene a workgroup to review sexual health education provisions in state law and state learning standards, and to consider the merits and challenges of requiring all K–12 schools to offer comprehensive sexual health education (CSHE). The workgroup recommends providing all students in grades K–12 with access to CSHE, and clarifying the expected content of instruction for the younger grades. First question is: what is "comprehensive" sex health education? Who gets to define what that means? This is important to ask because, based on the OSPI survey data we reported in our blog article of December 21, 2019, the rates of STD's have gone up 23-120% … [Read more...]
Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) in Washington State – drawing a line in the sand
On Monday evening, October 28, 2019, the Battle Ground School Board held a regularly scheduled meeting at which the 2nd reading of the proposed CSE was being voted on. The Battle Ground School District/Board requires that before any new or changes to curriculum occur that two "readings" need to be done. During the 1st reading the details are provided and questions asked. The public can comment during "citizen communications" sessions. If the Board Directors majority votes Yes the 2nd reading is held at the next scheduled meeting. If the Board majority votes Yes at the 2nd reading the curriculum is adopted. On October 14th, following citizen comments and the 1st reading of the CSE the … [Read more...]
Battle Ground School District – 2nd attempt – Comprehensive High School Sexual Health Curriculum reboot
In the summer of 2018 the Battle Ground School District attempted to implement a new comprehensive sex education curriculum. Hundreds of parents showed up to protest and the school board backed down...until now. The district has proposed a revised curriculum which is still a comprehensive education program but instead of using all of the FLASH curriculum they are only going to use 10/15 lessons. The most concerning is the material on "gender". There will be discussion at the upcoming board meetings (the next is October 14th) with the goal of approving by the end of October. The district held 2 public information sessions (you had to reserve space to attend) and allowed people to make an … [Read more...]

California’s Proposed K-12 Ethnic Studies Curriculum: Indoctrination not Instruction – coming to Washington State?
Some say...As goes California so goes the nation. For those who believe that parents should be responsible for making choices about their children's education you better hope California says WAY clear of Washington State. In this article published at the Independent Women's Forum written by Vicki Alger they discuss the continuing movement of K-12 education toward creating adults of the future that follow rules. Give it a read and if it scares you keep an eye on your local school district.
