Washington K–12 Return to Basics and Core Competencies – A Reform Plan

Part 1 of this article can be read at: Washington K–12 Education Needs a Return to Basics  A 2026 Policy Proposal for Academic Mastery, Knowledge and Career Readiness THE PROBLEM Washington has adopted successive education reforms while academic performance remains a concern. The central question should be simple: Are students leaving school with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed? A modern K–12 system should not choose between basic academic knowledge and 21st-century competencies. Students need both. THE PROPOSAL Establish a statewide K–12 Return to Basics and Core Competencies Initiative built on one principle: Knowledge → Skills → Competency → … [Read more...]

I’m a Former Teacher. Here’s How Your Children Are Getting Indoctrinated by Leftist Ideology.

This article ran ~2 years ago. Read it. Has anything changed? What and how? It was published at Heritage and written by Douglas Blair. Key Takeaways  It isn’t just a matter of actively teaching that America and the West are evil. Suppression of “wrongthink” is equally as important to the brainwashing process.  The young adults who today gleefully tear down statues of the Founding Fathers were incubated in our very own schools.  Conservatives must demand an end to the indoctrination of our youth or face a new American public taught since childhood that the country shouldn’t exist. Your children are being indoctrinated. The education system designed to … [Read more...]

Running for and winning school board races – critical to saving K-12 education in America

Let's be honest. Liberals/Progressives dominate school board director positions in K-12 education across America. They impact curriculum choice, textbook choice, programs including Social Emotional Learning (S.E.L.); PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Service) and others. Comprehensive Sec Ed (CSE) pushing gender issues on children starting in kindergarten. These programs get approved by the school board directors. They are the brains behind the massive decline in education. Critical Race Theory. White Privilege. White Fragility Theory. When did schools move from teaching math, communications, science, history and other core topics and start to feed, cloth, provide medical care … [Read more...]

Grade Schools: New Leftist Frontlines

On October 9th 2019 we ran an article about the move of Seattle schools to use math to teach revisionist history...that's right math won't really be math...it will be leftist history in it's place: https://swweducation.org?p=6170 On October 22nd 2019 a story titled:  Seattle Public Schools Want to Teach Social Justice in Math Class. That Hurts Minorities ran at National Review. On December 30th 2019 NPR ran another article pulling together examples of liberal/progressive groups and organizations making efforts across the nation:  Grade Schools: New Leftist Frontlines   The author is Marina Medvin. That is the article we bring you today. For decades we have said that there is a … [Read more...]

Re-imagining K-12 education

K-12 education has become a quagmire of social, emotional, health, nutrition, gender and other focuses such that the core of education has faded into the background. A number of demands come from Federal and State government entities; some come from special interest groups and others are local decisions. It’s time to strip everything away from education as we currently know it and rebuild from the ground up. The focus should be on helping students learn what they need to live in tomorrows world and to fulfill their interests and develop skills and knowledge that will make them productive, confident and happy people. This doesn’t mean producing robots who are programed. This doesn’t mean … [Read more...]

Stanford Math Professors thoughts on and experiences with Common Core Math

R. James Milgram Follow @twitterapi   R. James Milgram is a professional mathematician and a professor emeritus at Stanford University. Original article can be found at Townhall.com I don’t often get furious about the idiocies that daily emerge from the Common Core universe, but a recent statement by a lead writer of the Common Core math standards, Jason Zimba, got me there. As I’ve noted before with Dr. Sandra Stotsky (a fellow member of the Common Core Validation Committee), the developers and promoters of Common Core have perpetrated a gigantic fraud on this country. Now Zimba wants parents to sit back and stop trying to minimize the damage. In an article published in The … [Read more...]

Against School

This article comes from New Republic - It's a thought provoking article that questions whether the business community is using schools as way to train future workers and thus may not be doing what's best to create a well-rounded person. Give it a read and then share your thoughts....... In this previously unpublished essay, Aaron Swartz sought an explanation for the persistent—and possibly deliberate—failures in our school system. By Aaron Swartz January 11, 2016 Despite all the talk about educators and education priorities, the most important people in any school have always been businessmen. They constantly complain that our schools our failing, that they need … [Read more...]

Common Core’s Leviathan: Bill Gates and (Mis)Adventures within American Public Education

A well written article that walk through the background on Common Core by: Prof. Craig Sower is a Professor of English at Shujitsu University, Okayama, Japan, where he has taught writing and teacher education at graduate and undergraduate levels since 1998. Link: http://magazine.iafor.org/2015/10/14/common-cores-leviathan-bill-gates-and-misadventures-within-american-public-education/  ___________________________________________________________ The debate over the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) is not politics as usual. At first blush it may appear to be just another round in the 100-years’ war between progressive and traditional educators, but on closer inspection … [Read more...]
