Students and teachers deserve better: should Congress reform the NEA federal charter?

Today's article comes to us from The Mountain State Policy Center Most Americans are unaware that the National Education Association (NEA) — the nation’s largest teachers’ union — enjoys a rare privilege: a federal charter granted by Congress in 1906. That puts the NEA in the same elite company as storied civic institutions like the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, and the U.S. Olympic Committee. But while those organizations are rightly seen as broadly patriotic and educational in purpose, the NEA has morphed into something entirely different. Rather than promoting the “character and interests of the profession of teaching” and the “cause of education in the … [Read more...]

What Type Of Society Will We Become?

Today's article comes from Epoch Times and was written by TYLER DURDEN: What Type Of Society Will We Become? | ZeroHedge Is this coming to your district and state? “Each teacher shall endeavor to impress upon the minds of the pupils the principles of morality, truth, justice, patriotism, and a true comprehension of the rights, duties, and dignity of American citizenship, and the meaning of equality and human dignity, including the promotion of harmonious relations ... to teach them to avoid idleness, profanity, and falsehood, and to instruct them in manners and morals and the principles of a free government,” according to California Education Code 233.5. California’s Education … [Read more...]

Leftists Say Critical Race Theory Isn’t Being Taught in Schools, But in Seattle, They Aren’t Even Hiding It….Is it already here in Clark County?

From The Western Journal and C. Douglas Golden a story of the implementation of CRT in Washington State. But wait...you think it isn't showing up in Camas and Vancouver and other SWW school districts? It's called my many names...dig into your district and you'll find it. Now...what will you do about it? It’s the party line on critical race theory: It’s just a legal theory that’s being used in academia, and it’s definitely not being taught in our schools. The Associated Press’ Bryan Anderson wrote earlier this month that the term “seemed to appear in statehouses and at political rallies almost from nowhere. Over the past year, it has morphed from an obscure academic discussion point … [Read more...]

Charter Schools are Legal!!!

Teacher unions have been fighting charter schools in Washington State claiming use of public funds, for what the unions say are the equivalent of privates schools, is illegal. On Thursday, October 25, 2018, the Washington State Supreme Court issued their ruling. There are currently about 3400 students in 12 charter schools. The legislation allows the formation of "up to" 40 schools. What did the court conclude? (You can read the entire ruling on the following website near the bottom of their article: https://www.kuow.org/stories/washington-supreme-court-rules-on-charter-schools   Charter schools CAN receive public funds   Charter schools do NOT violate the State constitution   The … [Read more...]

Washington State School Directors Association – The lobbying arm of School Boards

The WSSDA (Washington State School Directors Association) is a group that represents all Washington State School Board Directors as a lobbyist with the Washington State Legislature. WSSDA coordinates and recommends Policy's and Procedures for School Boards to adopt as well as recommending updates. WSSDA holds several meetings each year that one (or more) school board directors can attend to be "trained" as well as vote on the items WSSDA should lobby the legislature on during the next calendar year. Each school board must pay a fee to be a member (the State requires it) So, how about some facts? How much does each school district pay to belong?   Open this file and find … [Read more...]

Personalized Learning: How Big is the Beast?

From Save Maine Schools ..... If you’ve not yet heard, public education as we know it is on its way out. While we toiled in the trenches under No Child Left Behind, a massive infrastructure was built to support a shift toward competency-based, “personalized learning” – just in time for the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education (now called ESSA). With its reliance on one-to-one digital devices, digital courseware, artificial intelligence, and massive data collection, personalized learning promises to reap big rewards for investors and corporate executives. Just how big is the beast? Let’s take a look. Hydra Head #1: Digital Infrastructure Remember PARCC … [Read more...]
