When teachers stray from educating to pushing their personal views and agenda the consequences can impact the lives and feelings of impressionable students. Today we bring you an example of a teacher who some think crossed the line. You be the judge:
If you think what happened needs to be addressed consider reaching out to the Evergreen Superintendent (Mike Merlino)
We bring you the perspectives of the student involved and of the parents. We’re removed the names of the student, parent and teacher as well as the specific school.
Student:
On Monday June 14th I went to my 1st period class. We had no specific assignment but were sitting around talking. At the end of the class the teacher went around the room asking the students if they were vaccinated. The teacher then asked for permission to give them a hug. All of the students that were vaccinated approved the teacher giving them a hug. My friend and I were the last two people to answer the question (because we were in the back corner of the room). The teacher asked my friend if they were vaccinated and they said “no, I’m not vaccinated” and then the teacher made a face, which I thought was a grimace. The teacher then moved to me and ask if I was vaccinated to which I responded “no, I’m not vaccinated”.
Editors note: The World Health Organization (WHO) has guidance about Covid vaccinations. No person under 18 should be vaccinated at this time (link: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/covid-19-vaccines/advice?fbclid=IwAR142biqdT5lgJw5HFjguDBi0JdkLc0AyWxLs_njEliQsixWwQe1H8WxfgA) Following these guidelines means that none of the students should have been vaccinated. In addition, by asking if the students were vaccinated the teacher asked for personal medical information which is protected under HIPPA. The teacher violated the students privacy.
After hearing my answer the teacher asked the whole class to stand up and get ready to leave. At that point the teacher started giving hugs to all the vaccinated students. To the two of us who were unvaccinated she awkwardly patted us on our backs as we left the room.
This experience made me feel weird and awkward thinking to myself, “why would the teacher do that?” After class my friend and I (the other unvaccinated student in the class) talked about how strange it was. One of the other students in the class thought the teacher’s action was totally normal.
Parent’s thoughts and observations after hearing from their child about the incident
Last day of in-person school before summer break, who wouldn’t be relieved? My kids got home, dropped backpacks and sat down. One of my kids says “wanna hear what my teacher did today?” of course I say “Sure”. I definitely wasn’t prepared for what they told me. I assumed it was going to be some fun last day of school activity. NOPE. “The teacher asked the whole class who was vaccinated and who wasn’t. Then told the unvaccinated kids they could not give them a hug because they were not vaccinated.” My only reaction was shock “WHAT?! They asked which kids were vaxxed and which kids weren’t??!?!”
I have never called a teacher, or a Principal. I’ve never emailed any ESD staff member, but in my core I was very mad and knew I’d have to make a phone call and address this very unacceptable situation.
I took it to social media first, then called the Principal. I could tell, as I was relaying the story to them, their tone of voice changed, and they were not happy with what they were hearing. They thanked me for bringing this to their attention and said they would definitely have a talk with this teacher and have a staff meeting.
In general, we have not been pleased with how the school district has handled the pandemic. The general rule should have always been “do what you and your family are comfortable with” nothing should have ever been forced. Witnessing the graduation segregation seating- it made me mad. Having my child be segregated and singled out in class was a whole other level. This made it very clear that this is a quick slippery slope. Discriminating, come new school year, against those who have been vaccinated and those who have not. Whether it’s offering them a hug (which is still kind of weird) or keeping our unvaxxed kids in masks. Shaming my child and singling them and their peers out for not taking an experimental, untested, long term vaccine is beyond unacceptable.
I feel like this teacher probably didn’t think too much about this situation while they were doing it. Even when my child was telling me about it, they were confused at why I was getting so upset. I then compared it to their teacher doing this with Religion. It started to make a little more sense to them and they soon realized the seriousness of this situation. It’s no different, discrimination is discrimination and should not be tolerated on any level.
I hesitate to subject myself or my family to this experiment (vaccine) that thus far appears to violate many bullet points of the Nuremberg Code. So much lack of informed consents by the Gov/Media/Pharma/Big Tech. People should always be able to choose what is the best for them and/or exempt themselves based on the Religious, Philosophical or Medical reasons. Allowing vaccinated employees to now go mask free, while still forcing unvaccinated employees to mask up, perhaps indefinitely. This serves as a coercive motivation, carrot on a stick, and in ways shames these unwashed, vile, disobedient selfish ones, peer pressure, shame, undue influence by leaders/bosses/teachers is disgusting. So much coercive and unethical persuasion.
Now the new school year in just over 2 months from now we fear this same pattern occurring to our children in school. We want them to just be kids and have a fun childhood/school experience like we had. Let them breathe and play freely. Let them learn without the fear and propaganda. For God’s sake, let them be kids again.
We must take a stand against this type of discrimination, that it is not tolerated! Our kids will not be shamed, and will not be shamed into compliance to fit the districts, city, county or states agenda.

Thoughts to ponder…
- Did the teacher cross the line?
- Was the hug/non-hug a form of pressure and coercion and judgement?
- When do the rights and beliefs and choices of the individual and family trump the school?
- Should any sort of action be taken and if so what?
If you come across situations where you think a teacher or the school or district has crossed the line reach out to us and share the details and specifics. Shining the light is good.
