Section 2 states that “model policy and procedure must require that school board directors will adopt inclusive curricula and select inclusive, age-appropriate instructional materials that include the histories, contributions and perspectives of historically marginalized and underrepresented groups including but not limited to:
(a – i) are standard groups (j) LGBTQ people as defined in RCW 43.114.010.
Section 4 – Line 23 was of particular interest to me as WA wants to mandate that curriculum committees “may include parents at the school boards discretion: PROVIDED, that parent members shall make up less than one-half of the total membership of the committee.”
Here is a sample comment:
“Please do not pass this bill. This bill completely disregards the rights of parents to have a say in their child’s education. We are already seeing a MASS EXODUS from public education because our state is deciding what curriculum children are exposed to without considering the beliefs and culture of all WA residents. My school district alone has lost 5 million dollars in operating costs due to parents disenrolling children for religious and cultural reasons. Our students and families differ by religion, race, and creed. WA State is mandating topics that violate the civil rights of many families. Education should not seek to sexualize children or alienate families from public education.”
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
