Washington State K-12 compensation and other data

Our friend Jeff has a website we’ve mentioned before. Given the strikes at Evergreen and Camas and talk of striking at Battle Ground and other districts around the state we reached out to Jeff asking for an overview of the information he tracks. Following is that discussion with links to his website and data for your perusal.

Note: Jeff does an annual update in December to capture the most current data published by OSPI. This data is entirely from OSPI. Jeff amalgamates and organizes it. So if someone claims the data is false refer them to Chris Reykdal the State Superintent of Schools.

I have these charts already online for all 295 traditional school districts in WA plus most of the WA charter schools that have data. I update them every year. I’ll update these in December when the official OSPI compensation data is available for the 2022-2023 school year.
I obtain the data at this OSPI page: https://www.k12.wa.us/safs-data-files
The 2022-2023 data that is there now is preliminary. It is always too low. So I wait until December for the official more reliable data.
Here is the one chart for Battle Ground
https://schooldataproject.com/pages/hist_ave_comp_sel_duty/Historical%20Ave%20Compensation%20for%20Selected%20Duty%20TitlesBattle%20Ground%20School%20District.png

Just navigate to the “Districts” page from the homepage

https://schooldataproject.com/

https://schooldataproject.com/districts.html

Then select a district such as Vancouver

https://schooldataproject.com/vancouver%20school%20district

Then scroll down to the bottom and select: “Historical Compensation for Selected Duty Titles”

https://schooldataproject.com/pages/hist_ave_comp_sel_duty/Historical%20Ave%20Compensation%20for%20Selected%20Duty%20TitlesVancouver%20School%20District.png

Those charts give a 6 year historical trend. That is probably the best that I can do for a while. I have to do some more work for the November election and then the Feb 2024 election.

I think 6 years is a good timespan though since it includes just before the McCleary Decision tax increases when billions more were pumped into the WA public school system. District administrators and the teachers’ unions just bellied up to the trough and consumed it all. Now they want more.
We do have to keep pushing back.
If you haven’t already, you might want to check out the reports page https://schooldataproject.com/reports.html
Try the per pupil reports https://schooldataproject.com/per_pupil_expenditures_list
Then for example select: Total Per Pupil Expenditures Vs Percent Low Income Students
You can then filter by county

That’s it. Choose the district you want and dig in. Share with others.
