At the risk of riling up the PC crowd we’ve historically assumed and believed that children are the responsibility of the parents. The reference to ownership isn’t intended to imply servitude or anything negative…it’s intended to define responsibility.
So…is the parent or government or school or community responsible for making decisions about the/your child/ren?
- In Canada’s post-same-sex-marriage society Canada’s chief justice has asked, ‘Who owns the children?’, and Dr Douglas Farrow says, “Increasingly the answer is, ‘The state owns the children’.” https://freedomforfaith.org.au/who-owns-the-children
- In an article titled: BYE-BYE, PARENT: THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO OWN YOUR CHILD Christy Duffy was unpleasantly surprised when she took her daughter to the doctor recently. When she arrived in the office, a notice on the door terrified and angered her. She was told she couldn’t participate in the medical exam of her child nor see the records.
- At LewRockwell.com there are some examples:
- State Decides If You Are Smart Enough to Keep Your Kids: Parents in Oregon have had two of their children taken away by the state. There is no evidence, or even accusation, of abuse or neglect. But the parents have low IQs. So the state can take your kids if they decide you are too dumb.
- California Court Makes it Easy for State to Take Kids If your child faces a “substantial risk” of injury or illness, the state of California can take them away to protect them. So that just about covers everyone. Of course the all-knowing state has a perfect record of keeping children safe… right?
- Parents of Truant Children Told to Turn Themselves in to Police The Mobile County Sheriff’s website alerts the public to an elderly home invasion, a body found in the trash, and a murder suspect on the loose. On another page, they list with pictures the parents of “truant” children. Parents are being told to turn themselves in for their crime of failing to send their kids to school. The Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook to shame and intimidate parents.

Next Tuesday in T.O.: Who “owns” the children? Who sets school policy? Ostensibly, it’s about what books should be on the approved list for teaching and whether and how parents opt out of materials that they deem unacceptable for their children. Some feel that there are highly unacceptable books on the list now and either want them off, or at least a stronger parental opt-out approach. We have run excerpts from some of the books before and find it hard to believe that their socially redeeming value exceeds their offensiveness, especially for 9th grade consumption.
- A YouTube (8 min clip) discusses actions be undertaken for the State to take charge of children if they deem it necessary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5ml2x4IrU4
- In public schools Common Core is the standard and you have to go through trials and tribulations to try to Opt-Out
- Schools want to feed and dress children. They want to provide medical services. They want to teach morality.
- You have little or no input or notice of topics that will be taught to your children without your consent (gender identity being just one)
- Are you aware of what books are being used?
- Wait…they tell you what foods you can send to school and if parent break the rules you get a note sent home
If you assume that government and your local school district are keeping you informed…don’t. You must be an active participant and ask questions and share your thoughts.
